Walgreens Surpasses 11M Coronavirus Vaccines Administered

DEERFIELD, IL — With its initiative to vaccinate residents and staff in long-term care facilities complete, Walgreens announced Monday it has administered more than 11 million coronavirus vaccinations at more than 70,000 stores and off-site clinics. The Deerfield-based company said it is now administering COVID-19 vaccines at a majority of its stores in 49 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, according to a news release. "Now more than ever, our pharmacy teams are there for our patients and customers, administering COVID-19 vaccinations to protect communities across the country at a critical time," said John Standley, president of Walgreens, in a statement. "As more vaccine becomes available, and more states and jurisdictions expand eligibility, we're continuing to broaden access across our retail locations. We're also driving equitable access to vaccines within underserved communities, to help the nation emerge from this pandemic." Walgreens Boot Alliance, the parent company of Walgreens headquartered at 108 Wilmot Road, oversees 9,277 Walgreens and Duane Reade stores in the U.S. Walgreens began administering COVID-19 vaccinations as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program on Dec. 21, according to the news release. The company continues to accelerate vaccine efforts according to state and federal jurisdiction distribution plans, including the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, which began in February. Walgreens focus on ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines also continues. Supply of COVID-19 vaccines remains limited at this time and available by appointment only.
