CHICAGO— A live grenade was found in a lunch bag on the West Side Tuesday morning, officials said. The Chicago Police Department bomb squad received a report of a suspicious package at around 9:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of West Madison Street. The bomb squad determined there was a live grenade in the empty lot and secured the area, according to police spokesperson Sally Bown. After securing the area and closing down nearby streets, the bomb squad took the grenade to a "secure location" to dispose of it, Bown said. The area was reopened at around 11:00 a.m. RELATED: Suspected Grenade Found, Detonated At Highland Park Lakefront The caller specified the suspicious package was a blue lunch box with what was possibly a grenade inside. Police are still investigating.
