CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are asking for the community's help locating a driver in a burgundy and tan Ford Expedition who is wanted in the fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 36-year-old woman crossing the street in Uptown early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. April 11 in the 100 block of South Tryon Street, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Responding officers located the victim lying in the road with life-threatening injuries. The victim was identified as Fran Kelly, 36.
Kelly was transported to Atrium Main, where she was later pronounced dead by hospital staff, CMPD said.
"The preliminary investigation revealed Kelly was crossing the intersection of S. Tryon Street at Trade Street when a burgundy and tan Ford Expedition came through the intersection and struck her," CMPD said. The driver did not remain at the scene and did not call 911 to report the crash.
CMPD said the investigation remains active, and that anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
