Earth Day Aziza Door Fairy Door Forest Clean-Up
Children and families are invited to explore Palmer Park's magical Aziza Fairy Door Forest to search for about 100 tiny doors and help clean the woods during our Earth Day event. People for Palmer Park will steer you on the right path, with trash bags, gloves and clues. Be sure to wear your mask! Aziza are small magical nature spirits with a Western African heritage. They are similar to sprites, fairies and pixies. Seeing an Aziza can be a very lucky thing. They have been known to bestow knowledge and wisdom. Azizas can be quite shy and most likely will be hidden.
As you explore Detroit’s Aziza Fairy Forest in the Palmer Park Witherell Woods, notice that many Azizas have their homes hidden among the trees. Look up in the treetops!
Explore the woods and take photos/selfies to share when you discover each tiny door to the Aziza homes. Share on social media to #PalmerParkDetroit
The Aziza doors were created by the Charlotte Mason Community School students and Detroit Parent Collective with wood donated by artists John Rizzo and Kyle Huntoon.
Help keep the park clean!
Please remove trash from the woods; use trash cans and help us end littering. We will provide directions where to return the trash bags.
