Description
Hi, I'm hoping to start a non-profit that introduces basic Computer/Electical Engineer concepts in a lab based approach to high school girls, with a focus on girls in low income communities. The CPE/EE field is hypersaturated with men, and through these courses I'm hoping to nudge these young women towards a career in CPE/EE. If there are any retired engineers who are interested in teaching this course (approx. 12 weeks for one hour a week), please email or call me.
The course will probably include:
- Basic History of SOCs
- Binary, Hex, Decimal and conversions
- Gates, Truth Tables, K maps, Boolean Algebra
- Circuitry fundamentals (Resistors, Capacitors, Voltage)
- MUXs, Decoders, FSM, FlipFlops if there's time?
All of these concepts will be introduced using a lab based approach using breadboards, multi meters, gate chips, and possibly a Raspberry Pi.
Possible Labs include:
-Simply led on/off
-Use LED's to verify the type of gate of each chip
- Implement a boolean function, represent it as a logic circuit, and map the circuit onto a breadboard and test the output
-7 segment display circuit
- Finish with large project that will be presented in front of panel of engineers? (joystick pong game on led screen, timed traffic signal using leds, motion detector, kitchen timer...)
As you can see this idea is still in the early planning phase. As of right now, I'm getting a sense of possible instructors and students. Therefore you don't need to commit 100% yet, just let me know if you're interested.
