Position: Maintenance Assistant Location: Snettisham Hatchery (remote salmon hatchery 40 miles south of Juneau, Alaska) Duration: Seasonal (approx. mid-May through October) Starting Date: TBA Closing Date: May 15, 2021 or until filled Purpose & Duties: Douglas Island Pink & Chum, Inc. (DIPAC) is a private non-profit aquaculture operator that produces chum, Chinook, coho and sockeye salmon at two facilities in the Juneau area for the common property fisheries of Northern Southeast Alaska. This Maintenance Assistant is stationed at the remote Snettisham Hatchery. Duties include, but are not limited to, helping plan and carry out a wide array of building and equipment repair, maintenance, and improvement tasks. Tasks include, but are not limited to surface preparation and painting, carpentry, vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair tasks, and other duties as assigned including helping with the handling of adult fish for broodstock, harvest and eggtake operations and other fish culture related duties. Qualifications: Ideal candidates will have significant working knowledge of building and equipment maintenance and repair practices. The applicant must be willing and able to live in a remote setting and interact with other staff to create a positive team environment. Due to the setting and nature of hatchery work, the applicant must be able to work in inclement weather conditions. Living Conditions: Snettisham is located 40 air miles south of Juneau, Alaska and is accessible by air or boat. Housing is provided with satellite Internet access, telephone and satellite television. Twice weekly mail flights are provided for mail and grocery delivery. Compensation: Salary range starts at $12.00 per hour (DOE) plus room and board.
