PLEASE be careful with these puppies. I have no idea if this is a legitimate ad or not. But I breed Shibas and they mean the world to me. They’re unique dogs and they need a special kind of owner. If your Shiba doesn’t have proper socialization and/ or comes from parents with faulty genes, you are buying yourself a world of heartbreak and expensive vet bills. $3,000 for an AKC registered Shiba is a normal and reasonable price. You should ask to see the AKC papers for both parents and make sure neither one is ‘limited’ registration. However, $3,000 for a puppy from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing and just bred 2 dogs together because they had them... is a ripoff. A HUGE problem is the age that is given for the puppies to go home. “All born 4/6/21” “ready for adoption 5/10” is only 5 weeks. Puppies, especially Shibas, are NEVER ready to leave their mama & siblings at 5 weeks! It will cause many lifelong problems, including problems with bite inhibition, anxiety, and socialization. 8 weeks is standard. Some breeders keep them until 12 weeks. Someone trying to send them to new homes at 5 weeks doesn’t have the puppy’s best interest in mind, and clearly doesn’t know what they’re doing. “Merle” is NOT an acceptable Shiba color. I’m doubtful an AKC pedigree exists for this dog that list “Merle” as the color. Be wary of unofficial colors being described as “rare” or somehow special. The most common reason for unusual colors is outcrossing with a different dog breed somewhere in a puppy’s family tree. A good breeder wouldn’t use it as a reason to charge an inflated price for a non-standard coat color. The merle gene is unfortunately linked with impaired function of the auditory, ophthalmologic systems, and immune systems of dogs. That’s because color and color pattern in dogs is associated with the development of the nervous system in the dog embryo. They all come from the same cells. Some of the conditions Merle dogs may suffer from include: Microphthalmia with coloboma distortion of the eye’s appearance night blindness a cleft in the iris, and third eyelids. Please do your research, and be careful. You, and the Shiba Inu breed, deserve the right family.
