We are currently accepting applications for a Roadway Maintenance Technician Apprentice. Following the State of Wisconsin guidelines for work-based learning, this position will allow you to go to school while receiving on-the-job training to become a roadway maintenance technician. As an apprentice, you will progressively gain skills through the Wisconsin DWD’s Roadway Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship curriculum and use those skills to perform street maintenance tasks within the City’s Streets Division. The City of Eau Claire’s Roadway Maintenance Technician Apprentice Program consists of not less than 4,288 hours of on-the-job learning including 288 hours of paid related instruction through the Wisconson Technical College System encompassing all aspects of roadway maintenance, from installing concrete forms to snow plowing, and operating all associated equipment. The ideal candidate must possess or obtain and maintain: a valid Class B CDL license with P and N endorsements (within 6 months of hire); a valid Class A CDL (by the end of the program); all special provisions detailed in Appendix A of the job description; OSHA Competent Person Training, Confined Space Certification, Flagger Training, Mine Safety Hazard Awareness, and Adult First Aid/CPR/AED (prior to completion of program). Candidates must also have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.), be able to report to the Central Maintenance Facility (910 Forest Street, Eau Claire) within 30 minutes; and successfully complete Transition to Trainer in the final year of the program. Prior experience in general construction is preferred. Salary range: $15.73 to $16.60 per hour, plus excellent fringe benefits.
