Who wants to start a punk band?

Middle Village NY

Description

Giving this another roll of the dice — guitarist/bassist, male, thirties, looking to start a punk band in the NYC area. Not looking for music-school grads who obsess about modes and scales, just guys or girls who can play well enough to make decent songs in a fun and supportive atmosphere, who actually want to gig and to get a head start on getting a set list together/getting tight now, before the venues open back up. Having at least basic equipment is pretty integral, and a willingness to practice at least once a week. Wanting to play punk and having a passion for the genre is important. If you’re looking for a metal band or a crust/doom/post-punk synth thing, more power to you, but this ain’t it. I’ve just completed an LP with other musicians remotely that’s getting a small vinyl release through a DIY label this summer, but that only scratches the itch so far, I want to get into a room with people, get loud and make some music that makes you feel something. Vaccinations are a must, or at least having them booked in so we can get started—let’s not mess around with the killer virus. My influences include Authority Zero, Rancid, Rise Against, Bad Religion, Strung Out, Menzingers, Iron Chic, Banner Pilot, Arms Aloft, Penske File, Hot Water Music, Beach Slang, Red City Radio and many other similar acts. I tend to write songs that have a social conscience but aren’t Anti-Flag or Propagandhi-level political. Likewise songs about life and the daily struggles thereof without descending into early 2000s emo. Basically, I’m down to make something with driving guitar, cool hooks and solid vocals, with basslines that devastate with groove. I can play bass pretty well and I’m fairly solid on rhythm guitar, can do a bit of lead so I’m willing to play whatever if the right people respond, or even swap periodically. Particularly interested in connecting with musicians who can sing, as I can’t. If you think we’d get along and you’re serious about making some music (not quit your job, burn everything down serious, but you know, willing to answer texts, put the work in and not flake out after a week or two), hit me up.
