This course examines the complexities of counseling clients suffering job loss and the ethical considerations for mental health workers. Out of Work: How to assist and counsel unemployed clients - 3 CEs Effectively Counsel the Unemployed and Those Facing Job Loss  Being unemployed can be stressful, frustrating, and depressing. For many, having a job brings dignity and offers individuals a strong sense of self-worth. Very often, mental health professionals have clients who are unemployed or will be facing an imminent job loss. Job loss and unemployment are stressors that can have significant biopsychosocial implications. Since career has become so intertwined with individuals' daily life, it is important for mental health professionals to recognize the issues that come with job loss and how to help individuals cope.  This course is designed specifically to help practitioners with specific strategies to aid in job searches and interventions that reduce discouragement, depression, and anxiety. In this course, we will:  Define essential terms such as labor force, unemployment, long-term unemployment, and underemployment Examine the value of work for people on psychological and social levels Look at the consequences of job loss from an environmental perspective Identify effective coping strategies for clients Examine cultural distinctions Discuss practice implications for mental health professionals CE Course Instructor: Jason Ingram, JD, MA, MSW is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and faculty member of the American College of Mental Health Education with a broad range of social work, HR, compliance, legal, and policy experience in various industries and sectors, including local, state, and federal government. This course is taught from a personal, academic, and professional perspectives. A graduate of Teachers College Columbia University with a Master of Arts degree in Sociology and Education with a concentration in Education Policy. He also received his Juris Doctor degree from The Catholic University of America and his Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Target Audience and Course Delivery: Includes, but is not limited to, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, and other mental health professionals. the instructional level of the activity is advanced. Course Delivery and Number of CE Credits: This live webinar course. Attendees may receive 3 to 6 CEs. One CE contact hour is equal to 60 minutes of a learning activity. Attendees must participate in all sessions for which they registered and complete a course evaluation. CE certificates will be issued on the same day and at the end of the class, pending receipt of the course evaluation. CE Approval Information: ​* Psychologists: Will to Health is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Will to Health maintains responsibility for this program and its content. * Social Workers: Will to Health, Provider #1709, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Will to Health maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 06/04/2020-06/04/2023. * Licensed Professionals Counselors: Will to Health has been approved by National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP Provider No. 6909, Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.
