May is Women's Health Month! Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is hosting free cardiovascular screenings on Tuesday, May 4. May is Women's Health Month! Heart disease looks different in women. Know your risk and be screened. Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is hosting free cardiovascular screenings on Tuesday, May 4 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at 1233 Wayne Gilmore Circle (Suite 450) in Opelousas. Guests will receive a complimentary thermal imaging screening which uses brand new technology that can detect venous insufficiency. Guests will also receive electrocardiograms (EKG) and blood pressure checks. An EKG is a painless test that records the electrical signals of the heart. The screening can detect blockages, the thickness of the heart wall, past heart attacks and more. An ABI simple, painless exam is used to test the blood flow in the legs to determine risk of vascular disease. Results will be reviewed on site. Risk factors of vascular disease include family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smoking, being overweight or being inactive.
