Kite Hawk Farms is a startup farm located in the agricultural zone of Brentwood, California. We are seeking a part-time, entry-level farm hand applicant that has previous experience in farming and manual labor. JOB TITLE: Farm Hand STATUS: Hourly, Independent Contractor GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Farm Hand is responsible for working within a team and individually in the day-to-day upkeep of plants, soil, and general farm tasks. Farm hand will participate in crop production and harvest which may include assisting with nutrients, irrigation, pest control, harvesting, and other crop specific production practices, while maintaining a safe work environment.​ EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.) 1. Keep fields free of debris and trash 2. Dig holes and fill propagation pots 3. Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean work environment 4. Assist with harvesting and processing of plants 5. General building tasks 6. Weeding and transplanting 7. Assist with bed preparation and other setup procedures TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As this is an outdoor farm, temperatures will fluctuate between extremes. Applicants should be comfortable working in an outdoor labor-intensive environment. Work requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate farm equipment. Requires normal range of hearing. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and push/pull up to 100 pounds. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the farming industry highly desirable, but not required. Must be 18 years of age, a legal United States Citizen, speak clear English, is subject to a drug test, and pass criminal background check.
