Ukrainian Easter Baking Workshop Ukrainian Easter Baking Workshop April 17, 2021, 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Please register no later than Thursday, April 15th.Fee for the workshop: $25 non-members; Members of The Ukrainian Museum must use "MEMBER20" promo code for the discounted rate. Ukrainian Easter (Eastern Rite Catholic and Orthodox) takes place on May 2, 2021. During the workshop, participants will learn about the Ukrainian Easter traditions and the making of the Ukrainian Easter breads, as well as partake in the making of Babka. In addition, students will watch the making of a Paska, learning the difference between Babka and Paska. Each registered participant will receive a booklet on “Ukrainian Easter Customs and Traditions” and “Ukrainian Traditional Recipes for Easter Holidays” prior to the class. Those who wish to partake in making the Babka during the workshop will have to obtain the ingredients prior to the class (see the list below), and some preparation will have to be made ahead of time. Each registrant will receive instructions for preparing the Starter I and Starter II prior to the class. After the class the participants will receive links to the video recording of the Zoom class for reference. To make the Babka the following ingredients are required: 3 envelopes dry yeast2 cups milk12 egg yolks, plus 3 whole eggs½ lb. unsalted butter1 1/2 cups sugar1 envelope Oetker vanilla sugar (or) 1 tsp. vanillazest of 1 orange and 1 lemon1 tsp. salt6-8 cups floura handful or two raisins (optional)To bake the babky it would be best to use 5–6 1-pound metal coffee cans *without an inside rim* or several metal cylindrical pans. Pre-grease the pans or cans.
