Foxboro Woman Makes It Back Safe After Getting Lost Hiking In NH

CONCORD, NH — A Foxborough woman and her hiking companion got lost Saturday traversing Arethusa Falls in Crawford Notch State Park, according to New Hampshire conservation officials. Andrea Slack, 27, of Foxborough, and her hiking partner, Nicole Nardone, 36, of Carver, called 911 around 10:45 p.m. and told dispatchers they were lost, had no lights and needed help. Officers with New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation arrived at Crawford Notch shortly after midnight and began hiking toward them. Within the hour, Nardone and Slack were back at their parked car at the Arethusa Falls trail parking area just after 1 a.m. According to conservation officials, Nardone and Slack said they were trying to hike Arethusa Falls and instead, made a right onto the railroad track, missing the trail. The women kept hiking until it got dark. They had no lights, food, water or warm clothing, and their phone batteries were low on power. After calling 911, the hikers waited for a while, but then decided to follow the railroad track back the way they came until they made it back to their cars. New Hampshire Fish & Game officials said the mountains still have winter-like conditions, and caution must be taken when hiking in early spring. Officials said hikers should always have a map, compass, lights, extra clothing, food, water, a fire starter, first aid kit, whistle, rain coat, pants and a knife.
