BOURNE, MA — The commute to and from Cape Cod may get a little more congested. The U.S. Army of Engineers announced maintenance work started on the Sagamore Bridge Monday, and lane reductions will be necessary throughout construction. Travel lanes have been reduced from two in each direction to one. Officials said the lane reductions are needed to complete repairs on the bridge's lighting system and its steel support beams. The project is scheduled to end before Memorial Day weekend. Travel delays are most likely to occur during morning and evening rush hours. For those seeking an alternate route, all lanes on the Bourne Bridge will remain open during work on the Sagamore Bridge.
