Join Sinnissippi Audubon and 317 Art Collective as we celebrate World Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 8th at 12pm.
Fly with us thru downtown Rockford!
We encourage you to wear bird masks, beaks that cover your face mask, wings, or carry a bird on a pole as we follow a migration route which will begin at 317 Market St. next to the Yellow-headed Blackbird mural by artist Therese Rowinski.
We will fly approximately one mile making migration stops at 99 E State St. home of our official city bird the Peregrine Falcon, 316 W. State Street where we will find multiple birds painted by artist Yulia Avgustinovich, and then on to 203 N. Church to see the Baltimore Oriole by artist Brett Whitacre. After we have completed all the migration stops, we will return to 317 Market St.
At each stop, you will learn about birds, climate change, and why this day is so special and should be celebrated. All youth participants will earn a special token (bird stickers, bird tattoos, and a youth bird journal) at each stop too. For those who complete the entire route, there will be a drawing for a plush Peregrine Falcon and Baltimore Oriole.
If you need supplies to help you create masks, wings, etc. We will be having a remote pick up day on Saturday, May 1st for cardboard, patterns, etc. (location and time TBA). A youth class will be offered by SmartyPants Rockford Art Studio on Saturday, May 8th from 10am-12pm. Details on registration to be provided soon!
Due to the status of COVID in the community, we will be limiting this event to 30 registrants (All family members must be accounted for at the time of registration). Registration, masks, and following COVID guidelines are required to attend.
Per CDC guidelines for outdoor events: If you can’t stay at least 6 feet apart from people who don’t live with you, wear your mask.
We hope you can come fly with us!
