CONNECTICUT — An additional 2,985 cases of the coronavirus were confirmed over the weekend in the state, bringing that total to 324,571. With 98,891 tests taken, the daily positivity rate now sits at 3.02 percent, down from 3.37 percent at the end of last week. "Our numbers have stabilized," Gov. Ned Lamont said during a new conference Monday. The governor said the state continued to make "good progress," and cited flare-ups internationally in Brazil and India, and domestically in Idaho and Michigan, as indicators that the global pandemic was far from over. A majority of the adults in the state have now been vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to the latest data released by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. As of Monday, 52 percent of adults 16 and above have received their first dose of the vaccine. More significantly, 83 percent of those 65 and above have received their first jab. Lamont said the state was expecting to begin vaccinations of children aged 12-15 "in the next month or so." The Pfizer vaccine, the only one cleared for children aged 16-18, is expecting to get the green light, according to the governor. "That's really important," Lamont said, "because it is the younger demographic that is not suffering many complications, but (is) suffering a lot of infections." Hospitalizations declined by 7 beds over the past three days, according to the state Department of Public Health. That brings the number of those hospitalized with the virus to 524. Coronavirus-associated deaths across the state rose by 13 over the weekend. The COVID-19 death toll in Connecticut now stands at 7,957.
