Woodbridge Cancels 2021 July 4th Fireworks

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Woodbridge Twp. made the decision now to cancel its very popular Fourth of July fireworks display, Mayor John McCormac announced Monday, April 12. McCormac said he had to cancel the show as Gov. Phil Murphy has not lifted his crowd size limit on the number of people who can gather outdoors. The state of New Jersey still has these COVID rules in place that limit general outdoor gatherings to 200 people — and Woodbridge's fireworks show on the Sewaren waterfront typically attracts thousands. "Although things are starting to open up a bit, we recognize that the holding of our annual fireworks display in 10 weeks will probably not be permitted as we would need the outdoor gathering limit to be lifted entirely," said McCormac on Monday in his weekly newsletter to residents. "We are calling it a postponement for now in case we can get something scheduled for the fall but there definitely will not be fireworks as we planned on July 3," said McCormac. Similarly, Somerset County already decided in late March to cancel their summer 2021 fireworks show. Woodbridge canceled their fireworks last summer, too, so this is the second year in a row without fireworks.
