Description
GLEN ARDEN, MD — Police said somebody hit a trooper parked along the Capital Beltway on April 4. The accident near Glenarden sent the officer to an unnamed hospital where doctors treated and released him, an incident report noted.
The Maryland State Police explained that the crash happened while a trooper from the Forestville Barrack was sitting in his patrol car at the scene of a disabled vehicle. The officer was in the right shoulder of southbound Interstate 495 at Maryland Route 202 with his emergency lights on, the write-up clarified. A driver then struck the back of his police car around 7:15 p.m., officers alleged.
The report did not mention what happened to the motorist.
Troopers reminded Marylanders to follow the state's move-over law. This requires drivers to move at least on-lane over from stopped emergency vehicles. If it is not safe to do so, motorists should reduce their speed to safely pass the scene.
