WOONSOCKET, RI — The City of Woonsocket has expanded resident access to the COVID-19 vaccine, said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt in a news release Friday.
The state made the decision to expand access due to Woonsocket's recent increase in COVID-19 cases and high risk of transmission, said the mayor.
"I am pleased that the State has immediately expanded COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to Woonsocket residents who are 16 and older because we have seen recent upticks in COVID cases, and the expanded vaccination eligibility will allow our residents to receive vaccinations sooner which will help us more rapidly lower the COVID-19 infection risk in our City," said Baldelli-Hunt in a statement.
"The majority of our most vulnerable senior population has already been vaccinated and by vaccinating our younger populations we will be able to get back to doing the things we love doing in Woonsocket a lot quicker," she continued. "I urge all of our residents to t ake advantage of this expanded age opportunity and register to receive a vaccination."
The mayor also announced that the Woonsocket state-run vaccination site added approximately 1,000 vaccination appointments Friday, which are available for all eligible populations.
Residents can register for a vaccination appointment here, by calling 844-930-1779, or by dialing 211.
