Through all of this, we work to open up the right to repair to device owners, make repair accessible to more people, and help protect our environment from issues related to electronic waste. We’re seeking to fill a position for a part-time Facilities Assistant position to help keep our San Luis Obispo headquarters in tip-top shape. Hours are generally flexible, but when working on projects with others you’ll be expected to communicate with coworkers to schedule your time appropriately. The safety of team members is important and at present this role requires adherence to COVID safety protocols, including mask wearing and social distancing. What you'd be doing: Perform a wide variety of general maintenance and cleaning needs --- this might include wiping down surfaces, changing a light-bulb, calling a plumber, picking up and throwing away trash, cleaning exterior areas of the building, assembling shelves or furniture, cleaning roof decks, organizing the warehouse, or dusting and cleaning spider webs. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists for cleaning and facility maintenance. Proactively fix things in the building in need of repair --- this could be a door that doesn’t close properly, a wall that needs touch up paint, a light that’s flickering, a faucet that drips, or anything else that you spot. Find ways to improve and maintain overall office cleanliness, both by cleaning things directly and by encouraging other employees to keep their work areas clean. Interact with employees in the office to ensure their workspaces are clean and helping with any projects that come up. Ensure and maintain a safe working environment both for yourself and those around you. Personality traits and skills that lend to success in this position: Basic familiarity with tools and repairs and maintenance Handyman skills, including woodworking, drywall, painting, and plumbing Good organizational skills and a general desire to see everything neat and tidy Ability to juggle and prioritize tasks Follow through and follow up on projects to see them through to completion Willingness to ask for assistance or additional resources when needed Self starter to find things that need to be done and complete them independently Flexibility and adaptability; there will be a fair amount of random tasks to be done Being friendly and able to interact and communicate with lots of different people in the office iFixit is an awesome place to work!
