ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a misplaced gun, a dog bite, BB gun damage, reported child abuse, a doctor's office theft and a downtown car burglary. Here is information from the latest police reports: Misplaced gun A resident in the 700 block of Alexander Boulevard told police Saturday that he may have misplaced his gun somewhere in his house. The gun was entered into a database. Dog bite A person in the 800 block of Prospect Avenue told police Thursday that a brown labrador ran onto a property and bit him. The person suffered a cut and went to Elmhurst Clinic for treatment. A reporting officer filed a dog bite report with DuPage Animal Control. BB gun damage About 1 a.m. Sunday, a resident in the 600 block of Linden Avenue told police that she heard what sounded like someone trying to open the storm door. She then heard several loud bangs. Officers saw damage to the front window, which appeared to have been caused by a BB gun. The resident viewed security footage, which showed an older gray model or silver sedan drive with its lights off. The case is pending an investigation. Child abuse reported Police received a report of a person hitting a child about 3 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of West St. Charles Road. The person told the officer that he had spanked his daughter. The officer met with the child, who was not injured or upset. The Department of Children and Family Services was notified. Theft suspect confronted A person told police that someone entered his unlocked car and stole a wallet and backpack about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of West Park Avenue. The car owner confronted the suspect as he was walking away from the car. The man dropped the backpack and ran away, last seen headed south on Adele Street. The man was described as 6 feet, having a normal build, having a light skin, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants. Extortion A resident in the 700 block of Thomas Street told police Sunday that someone threatened to post a video of the resident if he did not send money to the suspect. The victim did not send any money. Fugitive An officer saw a stolen car about 3:30 a.m. Thursday at York and Cayuga. When the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the car sped away. Doctor's office theft A patient told police that she left her purse unattended in an examination room Friday in a doctor's office in the 100 block of West Vallette Street. When she arrived home, she found that money and credit cards were missing from the purse. She canceled the credit cards.
