WEST ISLIP, NY — A West Islip man was charged with animal cruelty last week for not bringing his dog to the veterinarian to take care of his skin condition and eye infection, the Suffolk County SPCA announced on Monday. Officers responded to the home of 34-year-old Shawn Stark, several months ago to investigate a complaint that Stark wasn't caring for his dog Bandit, a 12-year-old pit bull, the SPCA said. They found that Bandit had a skin condition and an infection in one eye, the SPCA said. Stark was given the chance to take Bandit to the vet, but neglected to do so, causing Bandit's conditions to worsen, the SPCA said. Stark was issued a field appearance ticket and released. He is scheduled to appear in First District Court on April 26.
