Bassist looking for band

Hillsboro OR

Description

Heya Portland musicians! I'm a bass player looking to join or start a band. I've had my first vaccine for covid, 2nd is scheduled at the end of April. I am looking for a group that fits me. I don't have any hard-set preconceived notions on this, but more of a feel for what sounds good, the right personality mix, and meshing well musically. To give a little preamble on this, who I am: I'm 43 years old, been playing bass since I was around 18. I have an 8-5 M-F day job (which sometimes does need to work after hours, yay world of IT!). I have a wife and an 11yo kiddo. I'm not looking to 'make it' in music, I am looking for something that can be fun to get out and play some live gigs and have fun doing it. I am not looking to be in a 'political statement' band. In general, I'm fairly laid back and willing to work to be a full member of the group. Also, my hair will likely pop up in varying non-standard colors occasionally (currently it's a standard color, but has been red, orange, blue, green, purple, and black in the past). I could definitely commit to at least one day to practice a week (one weekday) and also a weekend day (depending on the specific day and time). So, with that first part out of the way, here's what I have for gear: I have a full-stack Carvin setup (1x15 and 4x10) with a 600w Hartke bass head and a few various effects pedals. I have several basses, most of them are Schecters. I do have an 8-string bass that's a bit fun to play (think similar in setup to a 12-string guitar). I also have a decent vehicle capable of bringing my gear to/from places. What style am I looking for with this? Well, I'm open to a lot. I'm not looking for: Country Punk Death/speed/screamo metal (melodic metal with singing vocal I'm open to, not so much on the growl/screaming/distorted so much I can't tell the chord) Jazz/Blues (I do like them, just not what I'd want to play) Pop/top40 What I do enjoy playing is: Prog/Story Rock (Rush, Queensryche... love me some Rush n Queensryche) Standard Rock (70's/80's/90's mainstream(within limits), hair, etc) Gothic rock (Cure, Sisters, Bahaus) Industrial (NIN, Frontline Assembly, Assemblage23) Alternative Rock (90's-current) (no oasis or radiohead styles - not me). Various styles of electronic ( synthpop, 80's/90's new wave era styles) acoustic sets - could be fun, never done a purely acoustic setup, but been a genre I've wanted to try. Ideally I'd like something in the goth/industrial/80's synth/rock genre's, or storytelling rock, but I'm open to a lot of other styles as above as well. I'm open to doing covers in a band, but I'd prefer original material to be the primary focus. I'd prefer it if possible to find a group that lives on the west side of Portland, but I know that may not be feasible. I live out on the west side (just past Hillsboro), but I can travel to the east/north side as well. I work downtown PDX a few days a week, so getting to practice after work wouldn't be a huge thing from there. I'd be interested in finding a group my age to play with (30's-50's) with other professionals, maybe that also have families (as they know that family obligations come first above everything). Well, I know you read a bit here about me. If you'd like to talk more about this and see if I'd be a good fit, please drop me a line!
