Description

Get up early to join experienced birder and Education Director Rich Capitan on a walk through the Alaska Zoo's wooded grounds. We are excited for the return of migratory birds to Alaska! In honor of World Migratory Bird Day held on May 8th, 2021, we are offering an early morning guided birding walk at the zoo with experienced birder and Education Director Rich Capitan. Join Rich bright and early at 6:30am on a walk through the zoo's wooded trails and back to the creek and pond area. Bring your binoculars and get ready to bird! Minimum age for this guided birding walk is age 10. Participants should bring their own binoculars, field guides (if needed) and dress for the weather conditions as well as possible wet areas on the zoo's gravel trails. Participants should gather outside of the zoo entrance at 6:15am, Rich will meet the group at 6:30am to let the group inside the zoo to begin birding. Masks are still required for all guests at the zoo. Watch this video inspired by the 2021 artwork created by Sara Wolman for World Migratory Bird Day. Learn about artist Sara Wolman.
