AUGUSTA, GA — Hideki Matsuyama is the 2021 Masters champion, finishing the final round of the 4-day golf championship on Sunday at 10-under par. Matsuyama;s win marked the first time a Japanese man won a major professional golf championship.
Matsuyama, of Japan, finished one stroke ahead of American Will Zalatoris to win his first green jacket, the yearly prize awarded to the winner of the iconic tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club.
Dustin Johnson, the 2020 Masters champion, did not finish in the top five, and Tiger Woods, seriously wounded in a California car crash in February, was not in the field.

Woods congratulated Matsuyama on Twitter following the historic win, saying the victory will "impact the entire golf world."
