Description
We are looking for an experienced gardener with certification and interest in being a Master Gardener or native horticulturist for a personal residence with approximately 20 acres of land in Kendall and LaSalle counties. The ideal candidate will have experience and be knowledgeable about the native farbs of the Fox River Valley area OR be interested in or pursuing a career in horticulture. This position has opportunity for career growth and would provide financial assistance toward coursework. This is a full-time position for 40 hours a week, with an hourly wage of $25.00+ per hour to start, dependent on experience. Days and times of hours during the week (Monday to Sunday) are flexible. This is a year-round position. Fall and winter work is guaranteed.
Responsibilities include:
Knowledge of native plants and use in landscape identification of native plants, insects, and diseases of trees and shrubs.
Installing and maintaining native plants.
Management and prevention of invasive species.
Performing skilled pruning and trimming of a variety of plants, ground covers, bushes, and trees.
Establishing watering schedules.
Preparing and applying, as needed, natural insecticides and/or pesticides that are not harmful to animals and pets.
Operating and maintaining a variety of basic gardening equipment and native grass drills.
Requirements include:
Previous professional work experience in the gardening field.
Regularly lifting items, such as 50-pound bags, and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as tools.
Experience using hand tools and mechanical equipment.
Ability to sit, kneel, walk, and stand to a significant degree.
Performing weekend work as needed.
