Description
Volunteers Needed. We only need just a few hours of your time. Although we can give you gas money and even some small stipend, our budget is limited, so we are looking for a few good people who care about the issue of homelessness. Our specific strategy is primarily PREVENTION. We have designed and are now nearing completion of the fabrication of a prototype for highly affordable housing. MomsVetsHomes.org is a non-profit with a mission to create at least one small part of the solution to prevent more and more homelessness. MomsVetsHomes.org is modeled after Habitat for Humanity. Participants are not part of the present chronically homeless population. They will be a select small segment of the growing overall population of mentally well, non-drug dependent individuals caught up in the present trend toward greater and greater homelessness. We call our program Habitat for Humanity Lite. We will enable single moms and vets who fear homelessness in the worsening economy to literally build and then own their own home after work in a safe and clean factory environment, complete with free childcare. Result: Ownership, free and clear, of their own transitional home. We are targeting single moms and veterans as two important sectors. Single moms have obvious importance on many levels. Since every day about 17 veterans commit suicide, we feel having a home, no matter how small, can literally be a life-saver. Our concept is what we call CARE PODS. These are complete homes, but much smaller than a tiny house. CARE PODS can be utilized in many different ways and when combined in greater numbers into a small supportive housing community, have the potential to be a real game changer in the war on homelessness. We honestly feel the homelessness situation is now growing into a long term major crisis. Will you help? The anonymous founder is an award-winning designer and home builder who has funded and provided most all of the materials and labor so far to fabricate the first prototype. It's now being built on a modified super duty Harbor Freight flat bed utility trailer. This way in the coming weeks the prototype can be easily transported to distant locations to display and demonstrate all its amazing features and capabilities. The CARE POD concept introduces a minor (maybe major) revolution in off-grid independent living. Here are some details: CARE PODS are micro homes built on a deck that expands and extends the living area to overcome the limited interior. The first incarnation will be positioned under the roof of a structure much alike a gazebo. Each CARE POD is an 8' cube. Each has a bed, living area, kitchenette and separate bathroom (yes, a nice little bathroom behind a door!). Wall panel construction is a lot like flats built for the motion picture industry. Carpenter - Since our CARE POD design is a lot like a big cabinet... we need a carpenter who is familiar with Kreg joinery and one who has the skills to do finish carpentry. Plumber - This will be someone who is familiar with PEX. The simple bathroom has a toilet and sink only. Electrician - We've designed almost all things electrical, but still need some help, especially for installations. The underlying electrical system is solar, and lighting is all LED, mostly 12 volt. We need an electrician who can finish the work. This is to finalize designs and do the installations in several phases. Nearly all materials have been purchased. All the wall, floor and roof panels are built. We're now ready for electrical rough-in, followed by installation of the fixtures in the near future. Please reply by telling us a little about yourself - your construction background, present situation (including all contact information), and what specifically you would like to contribute to this worthwhile project.
