Description
Are you looking for ways to get some exercise, be in nature, help a good cause, learn how to grow plants or just mingle safely with others while helping out? Volunteering at San Diego's unique South Bay coastal, Blue Wave Victory Garden provides all of the above and more. This not-for-profit farm's mission is to provide quality organic food to those financially challenged and front line workers. In addition, it's an edible maze, soon to be a venue for cooking demos, picnics and a safe haven while out in nature, sunbathing, walking the trails, birding and just enjoying fresh coastal air while reading a book. Brunch and dinner are provided for those volunteering, when meals are served. Please bring your own beach chair, umbrella for shade, utensils, drink and dishware, since there is a pandemic and the farm is all about being safe. At this time the farm seeks strong healthy folks who bring work gloves and can: ~ fill a wheelbarrow with compost and distribute to beds; ~ eradicate weeds with a hoe and shovel; ~ assist in affixing 6' fencing and gates to t-posts, to keep coyotes, bobcats and pests out; ~ bring a trowel and dig up and transplant various plants from one farm site to another. This is a volunteer position and the more the merrier. However, this farm appreciates their volunteers and offers organic veggies, seedlings and bouquets that are available at the time of volunteering. As previously mentioned, volunteers are invited to brunch and/or dinner, as well. Requirements to volunteer: must speak English, be a non smoker, have transportation and a mask to wear when close to others, be conscious of social distancing and be available a minimum of 3 hours. The last part of the screening process once qualified, is to provide a current photo so we know who to look for, that we are inviting to our farm. We need specific knowledge of applicants so we know which tasks are suitable and for safety issues. Please provide ALL of the following info, to be considered and to receive a reply: 1. Your first name; 2. Your location; 3. What will be your first day to volunteer? 4. Which hours that day will you be a available? 5. Your age. Some of our best volunteers have been 14 and 80 years old. If you are under 18, we will speak with your parent, too. We've had some great parent/child teams as well. Right now the farm is harvesting and sharing with volunteers the following: cilantro, arugula, beets, broccoli, cabbage, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, lettuces, spinach, kale, calendula. We look forward to hearing from you and inviting you to the farm. Please check your spam folder if you don't hear from us and have answered all the aforementioned questions. Thanks and Be Healthy!
