Description
Join us as our Artist-In-Residence, Jade Madden, pays tribute to Ella Fitzgerald in song! Dubbed "The First Lady of Song," Ella Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century. In her lifetime, she won 13 Grammy awards (the 1st Black woman to receive the award) and recorded over 200 albums. Her voice was flexible, wide-ranging, accurate and ageless. She could sing sultry ballads, sweet jazz and imitate every instrument in an orchestra. She worked with all the jazz greats, from Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Nat King Cole, to Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie and Benny Goodman. (Or rather, some might say all the jazz greats had the pleasure of working with Ella). Georgia native, Jade Madden, currently resides in Columbia, MD. A professional & classically trained multi-genre vocalist, Jade graduated from Morgan State University with a Fine Arts degree and is a proud alumnae member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Inc. Jade has been afforded the opportunity to travel the world to places such as South America, Asia and the Caribbean Islands to spread The Gospel through song. Currently, she assists in teaching special education students and performs with an array of award winning gospel/classical recording artists and ensembles. In remembrance of her late mother Elmira Madden, whom God gave her unmatched strength to follow after, Jade constantly reminds others that "We've got a lot of work to do [in the Kingdom]"...and this is only the beginning! Hear her perform along with several other talented musicians from throughout the Greater Baltimore Metropolis. The event will be held with limited in-person seating (Karma's Dance Factory, 5808 Johnnycake Road, Woodlawn, Maryland). Board approved health and safety protocols will be strictly enforced. Masks & face coverings are required for entry. However, the event will be streamed exclusively for ticket holders who wish to view virtually. This concert is to benefit the UCAS Scholarship Fund & program. Urbanchoralarts.org
