Curious what you can learn about the Nation's Capitol by paying attention to street alignment, symbols on buildings, and numerical patterns found in various objects and places in the city? Join an Egypt on the Potomac Field Trip facilitator to uncover secrets hidden in plain sight along the 16th Street Meridian Hill Corridor of Light. During this walking excursion you will explore aspects of African mythology, African American, American, and Washington DC history. The Field Trip illuminates the ancient Egyptian influence on the founding fathers of the United States of America, as well as their acknowledgement of the Nile Valley origins of civilization. This Egypt on the Potomac Walking Field Trip allows us to conduct this important activity while social distancing. It is limited to 25 persons (students 18 years and older, adults, and elders). We will walk less than a mile, through Meridian Hill Park and up 16th St. What are the advantages of the Walking Field Trip? Do something different during the COVID pandemic. Safely participate in the continued operation of a 35-year-old tradition while adhering to social distancing protocols. Avoid traffic delays encountered when traveling by bus. Learn new information that isn't part of the traditional Egypt on the Potomac Field Trip experience. Incorporate physical activity in your day in a fun way. FAQsAre there ID or minimum age requirements to participate in this event?The Egypt on the Potomac Walking Field Trip is open to people 18 years and older. ID is required to verify student and senior ticket purchases. Student tickets: require a valid student ID. Use code STUDENT at checkout. Senior tickets: must be 65 years or older. Use code SENIOR at checkout. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?Limited street parking is available near Meridian Hill Park. Please allow additional time to secure a space. You can also arrange to be dropped off (exact location shared after ticket purchase). Where does the Walking Field Trip take place?The Field Trip begins at Meridian Hill Park and concludes at the Washington Family Church on 16th Street, NW. During the Field Trip, you will learn why this street is known as the Corridor of Light and you will visit the Scottish Rite Temple. During the Walking Field Trip wrap-up at the Washington Family Church you will virtually explore other sites visited during the traditional Field Trip, including the House of the Temple, L’Enfant Plaza, and Banneker Circle. What should I bring with me on the Walking Field Trip?Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes. Dress for the weather. We recommend bringing a cellphone with a headset, water, sunglasses, and something to take notes with. Video or audio recording of the Field Trip is NOT permitted. Is lunch included during the Walking Field Trip?Lunch is not included in the Walking Field Trip. Refreshments will be available for purchase during the Field Trip wrap-up at the Washington Family Church. Are there bathroom breaks?There aren't bathroom breaks during the first half of the Walking Field Trip. Restrooms are available to use at Washington Family Church during the Field Trip wrap-up. Is the Walking Field Trip wheel chair accessible?Some locations visited during the Walking Field Trip involve stairs, so participation in this full event is not wheelchair accessible. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?No. If you do not print your ticket, you may be asked to show your ticket confirmation on your mobile device. What happens if I get stuck in traffic and am running late?Please build in additional travel time to accommodate inevitable traffic delays and to allow time to find a parking space. If you do not arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the Walking Field Trip, you forfeit your ticket. If you are able to catch up with the group, you can join, however the facilitator will not repeat the content you missed. What happens if I am no longer able to attend the Walking Field Trip?Full refunds will be issued if a cancellation request is received within 7 days of the Walking Field Trip (by April 10). After this, no refunds or ticket transfers will be offered.
