TEWKSBURY, MA — A Tewksbury real estate developer was charged and agreed to plead guilty to tax evasion, the U.S. attorney said.
Arnold Martel, 61, was charged with defrauding the government of more than $480,000 through a multi-year tax evasion scheme. According to charging documents, from 2014 to 2017 he personally accepted payments for work on condos his company sold.
Martel deposited the checks in his personal accounts or cashed them, but did not report the income on his tax returns, prosecutors said.
A plea hearing has not been scheduled.
Martel could face up to five years in prison for the charge of tax evasion. He is also required to pay restitution to the IRS.
