LINDENHURST, NY — In honor of the one-year anniversary of the first coronavirus case reported on Long Island, the Village of Lindenhurst will be hosting a special service to remember those affected by the disease. The COVID-19 Day of Remembrance Service will be held on Sunday, April 19 at the gazebo in Lindenhurst Village Square Park. The event will begin at 3 p.m. All are welcome to attend this outdoor service. Visitors are asked to adhere to social distancing protocols and wear masks. "...This will be a day to remember and grieve the lives we have lost, the loved ones left behind, and the heartache and uncertainty caused by this deadly virus," village officials wrote. "This will also be a day to reflect on the many ways our Lindenhurst Community has come together to look out for each other, to help one another, and reduce the spread of COVID-19." In April 2020, Long Island was singled out as New York's "hot-spot" at the time, with 13,346 confirmed cases in Nassau County and 11,370 confirmed cases in Suffolk.
