LAPD Officer Accused Of Running High-Stakes Gambling Ring

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 13-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and two other men have been charged with felony bookmaking for an alleged gambling operation centered on the Super Bowl, the LAPD announced Friday. Police Officer Robert Felix, Francisco Martin Del Campo, and Gabriel Martin Del Campo are all awaiting arraignment following an investigation by the LAPD's Special Operations Division, the California Department of Justice's Bureau of Gambling Control, and the California Alcohol Beverage Control. According to the LAPD, the trio orchestrated an operation where participants placed high-dollar bets on the outcome of the National Football League's Super Bowl. The California Department of Justice's Fraud and Special Prosecution Section filed the criminal charges against the men earlier this month. Felix, who was last assigned to Transit Services Division, is currently is assigned home with no police powers. By request of the Department of Justice, the LAPD hasn't yet gone forward with an administrative personnel investigation.
