Inglewood Oil Field Pipeline Leaked 1,600 Gallons Of Oil

CULVER CITY, CA — More than 1,600 gallons of oil leaked from a pipeline at the Inglewood Oil Field this week, the Los Angeles Times reports. The spill happened Tuesday at 8:10 a.m. when a valve was left open at the facility near Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. E&B Natural Resources manages the site and reported it was cleaning up the area. No injuries were reported. The Inglewood Oil Field is about 1,000 acres located near Culver City, Baldwin Hills and other nearby communities. The Los Angeles City Council is considering a stop to oil drilling in the city and in 2020 Culver City approved a resolution to phase out oil extraction at the site. The LA City Council this week called on Gov. Gavin Newsom to close the Playa del Rey oil storage facility at 8141 Gulana Ave., which is located near LAX and has a large population living nearby, and in the event of a gas leak, could become an environmental disaster, according to a 2018 study from California Council on Science and Technology.
