In response to the ever increasing risk of wildfires, Gavin Newsom has purchased seven C130 aircraft and has converted them into tools to combat wildfires. With these new aircraft, crews will be able to respond to wildfires anywhere in the state within 20 minutes. That is a HUGE advantage as opposed to several hours it took to arrive preciously.
Compared to our current fire fighting aircraft which hold 1600 gallons of water, these new aircraft will carry 4000 gallons. More than double.
In addition to the C130 aircraft, Newsom has purchased a fleet of Blackhawk helicopters that are each capable of carrying 1000 gallons of fire retardant.
In the past, Wildfires get out of control because our response times are too long. Newsom is solving that problem. True leadership.
