Seeking Funk Bass and Drums

Hello! We’re looking to put together a contemporary instrumental funk band. The initial goal is to develop a solid rhythm section with keys, guitar, bass and drums and we are currently looking for bass and drums to round things out. Age isn’t an issue however we’re in our forties and want you to be stable in your life. This is for fun and we’re not looking to make a ton of money. We’d like to do covers of contemporary funk songs, funkify existing pop songs, funk jazz standards, and originals at some point. The expectation is that we identify tunes to work on and get together to rehearse. So, we’d want someone that can come prepared and not learn songs at rehearsal. Once we have a tight rhythm section we’d like to get some features. Maybe a vocalist on some songs, rapper, DJ, horn players.. who knows. The idea is to keep things fresh and exciting. We plan to rehearse every other week on Saturday afternoon between 2 and 6 sometime with a goal to play out once a month. In time, we’d like to have a fairly robust repertoire and it can be tough to memorize a large number of songs, particularly with instrumental music. Therefore, it would be nice to work with others that understand basic lead sheets. Our influences include Galactic, New Mastersounds, Polyrhythmics, The Budos Band, Lettuce, and the like.
