Jury Members for Mock Trial on Saturday April 24, 2021 (via Zoom) Summary: We are seeking volunteers who bill be paid $125 for helping us on a Saturday from 9:30 am up to 4:00 pm. This one-day event will be held on Saturday April 24, 2021 via Zoom. A Mock Trial is not a real trial, but a simulated or pretend trial where lawyers are present but not a judge or court officials. It consists of pretend jurors who are paid, and volunteers acting as witnesses and role players as if in court, all in order to test theories and experiment with issues before any real trial occurs. This process is to hopefully allow attorneys to gain impressions, insight, and valuable information before a live trial occurs. We are paying $125 to each person per day for being a mock juror in exchange for them participating, engaging, and helping us until we are done up to 4pm. We need 12 people to spend Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 9:30 AM until up to 4:00 PM pretending to be jurors and actually listening to a shortened trial with live attorneys. We want people who are residents of Mecklenburg County or the surrounding area. What will you be doing? Well, after listening to attorneys, video-taped and live witnesses, and hearing jury instructions, the people selected as mock jurors will then adjourn to a jury room to reach their verdict. Some of these events will be recorded with our mock jurors being asked their impressions of what they heard, how they viewed the witnesses, and why they reached the jury verdict they reached. A pre-trial questionnaire will be filled out, and a post-verdict interview at the end will occur. It will be a lot of fun, and a great learning experience. We want all ages, backgrounds, and both more conservative and well as more liberal folks involved. All points of view will be listened to, respected, and encouraged. The recording of these events will be only for review by attorneys for real live trial preparation for a jury trial that will occur in the spring of 2021. After that trial, the recordings will be destroyed. Still, each participant will be required to sign a full release that will include such things as: each mock juror understands the legally related nature of the events, that they are to be treated very similarly to a real live juror, that their voices and video may be recorded, and that they will hold all matters in strict confidence and not divulge or contact any of the persons involved later.
