Description

All ages welcome to volunteer at the Florida Learning Garden! The Florida Learning Garden, a project of Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful in partnership with the Florida State Fair Authority, is a permanent one-acre interactive educational experience. The display garden features raised beds, hydroponics, hugelkulture beds, a Florida-Friendly Walking Trail, butterfly gardens, composting system, and the Cargill Windmill. From ‘right-plant-right-place’ to best practices for water conservation, the Florida Learning Garden educates residents on multiple growing techniques and sustainable practices to utilize in their own homes and gardens. As a nonprofit, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful relies on the help of individual and group volunteers to help us with the day to day operations of our learning garden. Groups, Student Clubs, Business and Individuals are welcome to volunteer (Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and/or bring the individual liability waiver signed by a parent/guardian - this form will be sent via email after you register.)Volunteers can assist with a variety of tasks such as planting, harvesting, and weeding (mainly weeding). There are a few requirements for volunteering at the garden. Please come prepared to get dirty; wear closed toe shoes and clothes that can be dirtied. There is limited shade at the garden, so sun protection is top priority; please wear hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. Water will be provided, however in the name of conservation, we do encourage volunteers to bring reusable water bottles. For more information about our many other environmental projects, visit our website at www.keeptampabaybeautiful.org.
