Description

Walk to visit some of Alexandria's statues, sculptures, murals, and other public art Which new mural in Alexandria was painted by two students attending T.C. Williams High School? Which sculpture is an abstract map of the historic Alexandria canal? Why is there a statute of George Washington sitting on a bench on Cameron Street? Come find out about some of Alexandria's public art on this free walk organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. We'll meet at Groundswell, the temporary art installation at Waterfront Park (1 Prince Street), then walk to various public art installations in Alexandria. The route is about 2.6 miles, and will cover parts of Old Town and Old Town North: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35402964. All are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. If you can't make the walk but would like to do a public art ride instead, BPAC is hosting a public art ride on Saturday, April 24. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexandria-public-art-ride-tickets-149984458553. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- breaking into small groups of 15 people (1 walk leader and 14 participants) -- requiring registrants to sign up in advance for a specific time slot starting at 9:00 or 9:30 a.m. -- asking everyone to self-screen and not participate if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people to wear masks during the stops, and also while walking if they can breathe comfortably while doing so -- asking people to give each other at least 10 feet of space while walking -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the walk if needed
