Description

Ride to visit some of Alexandria's statues, sculptures, murals, and other public art Where in Alexandria can you find 100 polycarbonate birds twinkling in the breeze? Which sculpture was made by an artist who went on to become a Zen monk? Which new mural was painted by two students attending T.C. Williams High School? Come find out about some of Alexandria's public art on this free bike ride organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. We'll meet at Groundswell, the temporary art installation at Waterfront Park (1 Prince Street), then hop on our bikes and ride to various public art installations in Alexandria. If you participated in our 2019 murals ride or 2020 public art ride, the stops on this ride are all new (with one exception). The route is about 16 miles, with a mix of neighborhood streets, bike lanes, and trails, including some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35402749. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. Bring a functioning bike, a helmet, water, a face covering, and hand sanitizer. You'll be asked to sign a waiver before the ride. If you can't make the ride but would like to do a public art walk instead, BPAC is hosting a public art walk in Old Town and Old Town North on Sunday, April 25. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexandria-public-art-walk-tickets-150174264267. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- breaking into small groups of 15 riders (1 ride leader, 1 sweep, and 13 participants) -- requiring registrants to sign up in advance for a specific time slot starting at 9:00, 9:30, or 10:00 a.m. -- asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people to wear masks during the stops, and also while riding if they can breathe comfortably while doing so -- asking people to give each other at least 10 feet of space while riding -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the ride if needed
