This is the very first indoor performance at The Back Room in 13 months! True, only 15 people will be allowed in, as per current guidelines. But also true, this performance will be streamed - and as we all know, a streamed show in front of a live audience - even a small one - is just more exciting than those empty-seated streams that we have all seen this past year. A long-time favorite of audiences in California and beyond, Roberta has been associated with several genres and styles of American music. For many years she has been a featured member of Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks. More recently she formed the Prohibition Mob, a terrific band dedicated to the music of the 20's and 30's. Their debut album has gotten, and continues to get, very favorable treatment from the national Jazz press, and radio stations around the country. “Roberta Donnay is a Jazz Age preservationist, guardian of Depression-era sounds, and extender of traditions.” - All About Jazz, 2015 “With her singularly enticing sound, few contemporary vocalists are as well suited to dustily vintage material as jazz-blues stylist Roberta Donnay.” – Jazz Times Donnay has performed with, or opened for Joey Alexander, George Benson, Elvis Costello, Bob Dorough, Dave Ellis, David Grisman, Dan Hicks, John Hammond, Herbie Hancock, Dr. John, Christian McBride, Maria Muldaur, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Reed, Leon Russell, Joe Sample, David Sanborn and more. Tonight she will bring that same material to the more intimate setting of a piano/vocal duo. Sam, as you may know, is right at home with this old-time jazz, and they intend to have a lot of fun. Extra added! Danny Caron, a long-time associate of both Roberta and Sam, will be bringing his exceptionally swinging and versatile guitar to the mix.
