CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater police are investigating three serious accidents that took place within a 24-hour period on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. A motorcyclist is in critical condition following an accident on the Courtney Campbell Causeway Thursday night. According to Clearwater police, the crash occurred at 11:52 p.m. in the eastbound lanes when the motorcyclist changed lanes and entered the path of a car. The motorcyclist was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. No one else was injured. Clearwater police are also investigating a crash that occurred in the westbound lanes of Courtney Campbell Causeway east of Dr. Kiran Patel Boulevard on Wednesday around 10:20 a.m. involving two tractor-trailer trucks, a pickup truck and five other vehicles. The driver of a tractor-trailer truck failed to brake in time, hitting the rear of another truck and causing a chain-reaction. Two people were taken to the hospital following the crash and 14 people were treated at the scene. Police then responded to another crash in the eastbound lanes just east of the earlier crash. involving three vehicles and was east of the original crash location, according to the Clearwater Police Department. One woman was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment.
