Description

VIENNA, VA — Vienna Police will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day with a collection site on Saturday, April 24. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Vienna Police Department will allow residents to anonymously turn in expired, unused, or unwanted medications. Due to the police station construction project, the police department is located in a temporary facility at 301 Center Street, South (former Faith Baptist Church). Accepted items include prescription medications, controlled or non-controlled substances, and over-the-counter drugs. Residents may dispose of medications in original containers after removing identifying information from the label. Liquid products should be sealed in the original container to prevent leaking. Intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes are not accepted. Vape pens or other e-cigarette devices will be accepted from individuals if batteries are removed from the devices. The event is intended for individuals to dispose of unwanted medications. Commercial businesses, pharmacies, or other medical facilities cannot use the event to dispose of expired medications or medical waste. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day spearheaded by the DEA seeks to give residents a safe and convenient way to dispose of prescription drugs and educate residents about the potential of prescription drugs to be misused or abused. The last Drug Take Back Day in October 2020 yielded 25,706 pounds of medications in Virginia and 985,392 pounds across the U.S.
