WESTFIELD, NJ — A fundraiser was recently set up for a Westfield mother of three children who passed away on March 7 after a short battle with colon cancer. Elaine Gannon, 45, "was a mother, sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend to many and was taken way too early," wrote the organizer of the fundraiser (found here). "For anyone who met Elaine, you knew she was a strong, independent woman who could light up a room with her smile. But, most importantly in the last decade of her life, she was a mother who was dedicated to loving, growing and supporting her three wonderful children, Noah (10), Emily (10) and Samuel (7)." It is only recently that the American Cancer Society began recommending that people of "average risk" begin colon cancer screenings at age 45 (read more here). The CDC recommends screenings starting at 50. Gannon's fundraiser says, "We are setting up this fund to ensure they have financial support as they move forward through life for expenses such as camps, colleges, housing, and so much more." The fundraiser notes, "We will never be the same without her in our lives, but we know that there are many people who will support us through this journey." For those who'd rather write a check than donate online, checks can be sent to the Fund for the Children of Elaine Gannon, and mail to the law firm of Blades & Rosenfeld, P.A., Suite 1200, 20 S. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. "The law firm (run by Sandy Schreiber) will hold these funds and will be made available for use by the family for the living and educational expenses of the children," says the fundraiser. Gannon's obituary is here. Don't miss breaking news alerts when they are announced, or get a free daily morning newsletter with local news. Sign up with your preferences here. Got news?
