By Len Ramirez, CBS San Francisco: SAN JOSE (KPIX) — While there are increasing signs of California's economy picking up steam as it emerges from pandemic-related stagnation, a new jobs report out Thursday shows that much of the state's economy is still sputtering. Unemployment claims in California spiked to their highest levels since early January. According to the state labor department, there were 145,000 unemployment filings last week, up 16,000 from the week before. California additionally accounted for about 1 in 5 unemployment claims filed across the nation.
