PITTSBURGH, PA ā A large snake that was observed in Frick Park Thursday prompted Pittsburgh animal control officials, city park rangers and police officers to search for the it. City public safety officials warned people to stay away from any large snake they were not familiar with and notify police if they see one.
Officials later found that there was no reason to panic over the reptile, which was identified as a native black rat snake. According to the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission, the black rat snake is one 0f 21 species of snakes native to the state.
