MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN— The city of Mendota Heights announced that it will take ownership of a section of Old Sibley Memorial Highway.
City Council agreed to take over ownership from the Department of Transportation at its meeting on Tuesday, the city said.
The section of the highway is 1.35 miles, starting West of St. Peter's Church and ending near Big Rivers Trailhead, the city said.
In exchange for the city taking ownership, MnDOT will have to resurface the road and install a curb, the city said.
The road would have closed if the city had not agreed to take ownership, the city said.
MnDOT and the city have been negotiating this section of the road since the 1990s, the city said.
