Suspect Nabbed After Pedestrian Struck In Temerson Hit-And-Run

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department has arrested Charles Bell, 61, after a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle in the 2300 block of Fourth Street in Temerson Square Thursday night. The incident happened at 10:22 p.m. Thursday night, resulting in the 39-year-old man who was struck being transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. TPD says witnesses reported seeing a white mini-van strike the victim then speed away, heading east on Fourth Street. Investigators then received information that led them to Bell's home in Duncanville, off of U.S. Highway 82 East. TPD Chief Brent Blankley and officers with the department Accident Reconstruction Unit arrived at the home just before 2 a.m. and found the suspected vehicle parked at the home with a broken windshield. Bell was examined at DCH and then transported to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes office. Additionally, TPD said when Bell was interviewed, he shoved an investigator, resulting in a misdemeanor charge for harassment of that officer. On that charge, he was booked into the being the Tuscaloosa County Jail Friday morning with bail set at $500. Charges connected to the hit-and-run are pending. While the events are unrelated, Thursday's hit-and-run in Temerson Square occurred less than a week after five people were injured in a shooting outside of Roxy's Bar. It also came the day before Mayor Walt Maddox was scheduled to meet with downtown business owners and landlords to discuss potential solutions to recent issues.
