Worcester Officer Bitten On Chest, Arm During Struggle

WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester police officer suffered "open wounds" after he was bitten several times by a man during an arrest attempt in the Main South area Thursday afternoon, according to police. Just after 2:30 p.m., police went to Beacon Street to confront two men who were riding dirt bikes in the roadway. Police arrested one of the men, a 27-year-old Beacon Street resident, on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and unlicensed operation of a vehicle. The second man, a 22-year-old Dayton Street resident, ran from police. One officer chased the man, who was wearing a fanny pack that police believed may have contained a gun. The officer tackled the 22-year-old, and was bitten on the arm and chest while trying to arrest the man. The man was able to get away from the officer, but was later caught along Hancock Street. Police said he was carrying a knife, ammunition and packaged fentanyl. Police also said the dirt bike he was riding was reported stolen in 2018. The man was charged with trafficking fentanyl, assault on a police officer, mayhem, disorderly conduct, weapons charges, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and several motor vehicle violations, according to Worcester police.
